How It Works

3-Phase Microbial Ecosystem for Water Purification

  • Attachment Phase
Microbes are attracted to the positively charged fiber surface of Bio-Lace® and attach naturally.
  • Growth Phase
Bacteria multiply rapidly, forming aerobic zones outside and anaerobic zones inside each fiber strand.
  • Detachment & Dispersal
Biomass detaches as sludge and is easily removed downstream, reducing excess buildup.

Application Areas

Municipal
Food & Dairy
Oil & Gas
Pharma
Pulp & Paper
Textile

FAQS

What makes Bio-Lace® different from conventional IFAS or MBBR media?

Unlike floating MBBR media, Bio-Lace® is a fixed string media with a higher surface area and superior microbial retention. It supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, requires no mesh or barriers, and delivers higher BOD and nutrient removal with lower maintenance.

Can Bio-Lace® be added to an existing STP or ETP without modification?

Yes. Bio-Lace® is designed for drop-in retrofitting. It does not require tank modification, draining, or extended downtime — making it ideal for quick upgrades in operational plants.

How long does Bio-Lace® last?

The material has a lifespan of 15 years or more, thanks to the use of polyvinylidene chloride and polypropylene, which are highly resistant to wear, chemical attack, and microbial degradation.

What is the expected BOD, T-N, and T-P removal using Bio-Lace®?

In ideal conditions, Bio-Lace® achieves:

  • BOD: >95%
  • T-N: >90%
  • T-P: >80%

It outperforms conventional systems even in low HRT environments.

Does Bio-Lace® reduce excess sludge generation?

Yes. Its food-chain-based microbial design ensures that anaerobes consume byproducts of aerobes, reducing sludge yield and disposal costs.

Can Bio-Lace® be used in natural water bodies like rivers and lakes?

Absolutely. Bio-Lace® can be deployed horizontally on riverbeds or lakebeds, promoting natural bioremediation by enhancing microbial activity and oxygen distribution.

How is Bio-Lace® installed in tanks or reactors?

Bio-Lace® cords are suspended using poles or grids, spaced 10 cm apart, and anchored to keep them submerged. The aeration system then supplies oxygen from below to activate microbial action.

Does the system require frequent cleaning or replacement?

No. Bio-Lace® is self-maintaining in well-designed systems. Unlike MBBR media, it doesn’t float or clog aerators and doesn’t need frequent draining or backwashing.

What are the typical industries or settings using Bio-Lace®?

Bio-Lace® is used in:

  • Municipal STPs & ETPs
  • Pharma & Chemical Industries
  • Breweries, Fisheries & Food Plants
  • Canal and River Cleanup Projects
  • Residential Communities & Smart Cities
